SafeTALK – Keeping Communities Safe from Suicide
This month Youth in Transition partnered with Shared Vision to host the Safe Talk event. This truly practical seminar provided attendees with the skills of how to communicate around sensitive issues and to provide practical help to others. The workshop was presented by Caroline Wilson from A-OK who is experienced in tackling mental well-being and in conjunction with LivingWorks, a world leader in providing, proven, high-quality programmes in suicide prevention.
The seminar gave us practical tools to helping people in our community by becoming suicide alert. Some of the life changing topics included:
· Recognising the warning signs
· Exploring the struggle
· Knowing how to ask the right questions
· Knowing where to go for help
It was tremendous to partner on this event at the HBC Youth Centre as we together create a suicide-safer community.
This seminar helped attendees from our community become suicide alert and provided practical and simple skills which could be used to help keep others safe from suicide. Keep an eye open for SafeTALK workshops in your community as they are well worth attending as together we help build a suicide-safer community.
There is a further SafeTALK workshop being held at 7pm on Thursday 29th August at Whangaparaoa Primary School, 39 Ladies Mile, Manly.
