About Youth in Transition and Why We Need Your Support
Youth In Transition’s journey began in 2014, in response to the growing number of young people suffering with anxiety and depression, and the unsettling fact that New Zealand has the highest rate of youth suicide in the OECD.
Our mission is to reduce youth suicide and to do this the Youth In Transition Trust has developed a unique programme called the “Journey Back to Awesome”, specifically aimed to address the needs of young people who are dealing with issues such as low self-esteem, depression, anxiety, and suicidal thinking. It is designed to equip them with the skills and resources to get through their struggles and transition into a life worth living.
A few years ago, the approach the Trust is taking was independently reviewed. The outcome, in short, is that this programme works and is hugely successful. We have helped 800 young people, whose lives would otherwise be diminished or wasted - and the demand for our services continues to grow. We have reached a point where we are having to turn so many young people away due to a lack of resources, which is extremely heart-breaking for us.
